Sword Archive We can offer a research service
for the owners of edged weapons (swords, knifes etc.) manufactured by
Wilkinson Sword Limited. The majority of these weapons, upon completion, were
given a serial number, The Wilkinson Sword archive of records, the earliest
of which start on 1 January 1854 with serial number 5000, record details of
the weapon, blade length and width, type of arm, date finished and purchasers
name, sometimes the purchaser would be a retail outlet, other times the
record simply gives the family/surname of the purchaser. Within the record
books a few serial numbers are blank with no information recorded on them and
some other pages/serial numbers are missing. To find your sword/knife in the
records we must have the serial number of the arm, without this number we
cannot help you. Some sword records contain very
minimal information, only details such as the manufacture date, sword
dimensions and sometimes, for which branch of service the sword was ordered,
i.e. the Cavalry; Infantry Regiments; Royal Navy; Royal Artillery or Royal
Engineers. In these cases the purchasers name is not present. It maybe that
you would still like a copy of the record even though it contains only this
minimal information. Should this be the case please tick the requisite box on
the Archive
